Mercedes-Benz E-Class

2026-10-04 10:30:00

Model Overview

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the core executive luxury sedan in the Mercedes-Benz stable, slotted neatly between the C-Class and S-Class. It stands as one of the marque's global best-sellers and the benchmark in the executive sedan segment. In the domestic Chinese market, the long-wheelbase version (codenamed V214) is locally assembled by Beijing Benz, sold alongside the imported standard-wheelbase sports variant. In November 2025, the 2026 long-wheelbase E-Class was officially launched with 11 variants on offer, carrying official recommended retail prices ranging from RM429,900 to RM599,800. The update introduces a new entry-level E 260 L Classic variant, lowering the starting price by RM21,900 compared to the 2025 model. Its primary rivals are the BMW 5 Series and Audi A6L.

Design Language

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz E-Class carries forward the family design language of the 11th-generation model. The front fascia offers two distinct styling treatments: the standard sedan features a classic horizontal chrome grille crowned with the iconic standing bonnet star for a stately, executive presence suited for corporate duties; the sports sedan adopts a "star-pattern" pin-dot grille housing a prominent central star emblem to emphasise youthful dynamism. Flanking the grille are digital intelligent LED headlamps sporting a retro-inspired "peanut" silhouette, supporting pixel-level adaptive beam projection. At the rear, full-width LED taillights incorporate the signature three-pointed star motif, delivering unmistakable night-time visibility.

In terms of dimensions, the China-made long-wheelbase version measures 5,092 mm long, 1,880 mm wide, and 1,493 mm tall, with a generous wheelbase of 3,094 mm. Short front overhangs and a continuous shoulder line lend the profile a sleek, elongated elegance, while the distinctive "L" badge on the C-pillar denotes its long-wheelbase credentials. The exterior colour palette remains understated and classy, complemented by a selection of 18- to 20-inch alloy wheel designs.

Inside, the E-Class adopts a yacht-inspired wraparound cockpit layout. The dashboard seamlessly houses a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.4-inch central touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch front passenger entertainment display, with range-topping variants boasting the "MBUX Superscreen" . The cabin is lavishly appointed in premium leather upholstery accented by chrome trims and contrast stitching, which, together with 64-colour ambient lighting, delivers an opulent interior ambiance.

Powertrain & Performance

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz E-Class range is powered entirely by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine paired with a 48V integrated starter-generator (ISG) mild-hybrid system. Two states of tune are available: the low-output E 260 L series develops 150 kW (204 hp) and 320 Nm of torque; the high-output E 300 L series delivers 190 kW (258 hp) and 400 Nm. Power is sent to the wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission (9G-TRONIC) across the board. Drivetrain options include rear-wheel drive (RWD) and 4MATIC all-wheel drive (AWD). Selected flagship variants gain adaptive air suspension. Comprehensive official figures for fuel consumption and century sprint times have yet to be fully published.

Chassis & Handling

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class rides on front and rear multi-link independent suspension. Variable damping suspension and variable steering ratio technology come standard across all variants. Higher-spec models feature optional or standard adaptive air suspension, providing a "dual-personality" driving experience. Chassis tuning stays true to Mercedes-Benz's comfort-first DNA, delivering superb bump absorption and exceptional NVH suppression at highway cruising speeds. While the domestic long-wheelbase variant omits the rear-wheel steering available on overseas models, it maintains an impressive balance between handling agility and ride comfort. The standard-wheelbase version, meanwhile, offers sharper, more nimble dynamics courtesy of its tighter footprint.

Cabin & Equipment

On the smart connectivity front, the 2026 E-Class comes equipped with the 3rd-generation MBUX multimedia system. The infotainment setup is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chipset, ensuring fluid, lag-free operation. The system supports 5G connectivity, over-the-air (OTA) software updates, natural voice control (with continuous dialogue recognition), third-party app expansion, and wireless Apple CarPlay.

In terms of seating, 14-way power-adjustable front seats with extendable leg cushions are standard across the range. Benefiting from the generous 3,094 mm wheelbase, rear legroom easily exceeds 900 mm. For added comfort, a 360-degree surround-view camera system, 360-degree ambient lighting, and open-pore ash wood trim come standard on every variant. Flagship variants add luxury amenities such as a Burmester 4D surround sound system, ventilated and heated front seats, and power-adjustable rear seat backrests. Features such as a smartphone digital key are also available on selected trims.

Safety & Driver Assistance

On the safety front, the 2026 Mercedes-Benz E-Class comes standard with a driver's knee airbag. Active safety fundamentals such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) are standard across the range. Passive safety equipment further includes dual front airbags, front side airbags, as well as front and rear curtain airbags.

Advanced driver assistance is a headline upgrade for the 2026 E-Class, with Level 2 ADAS fitted as standard across the lineup. From the E 260 L sedan upwards (excluding the entry Classic variant), the Navigation Assist Max package—previously an optional extra costing RM17,400—is now bundled as standard equipment at no extra charge, significantly boosting value for money. The suite includes full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Centring Assist (LCA). From the second-tier trim onwards, the vehicle is equipped to support Highway Navigation on Autopilot (Highway NOA) . However, the entry-level Classic variant misses out on binocular stereo cameras, retaining standard ACC and basic park assist. In addition, higher-spec models fitted with the Head-Up Display (HUD) support augmented reality (AR) navigation.

Market Performance & Outlook

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class continues to command robust sales numbers in the Chinese market. Total annual deliveries in 2025 reached 130,810 units, securing its crown as the best-selling petrol-powered luxury sedan of the year. Cumulative sales from January to November 2025 stood at 117,600 units, with monthly registrations in September 2025 hitting 13,103 units. During peak sales periods, monthly deliveries hovered close to 15,000 units. In May 2026, total lineup sales stood at 8,928 units.

Automotive media reviews highlight that the 2026 Mercedes-Benz E-Class has sharpened its competitive edge through a "more kit for the same money" value strategy and a lowered entry barrier. Its core appeal remains rooted in the brand equity of the three-pointed star, limousine-grade rear space, and Mercedes-Benz's signature executive refinement. Serving as the primary volume driver for Mercedes-Benz in China, the E-Class acts not only as the brand's sales anchor, but also successfully defends its market share in the luxury executive sedan segment amidst the aggressive rise of new energy vehicles (NEVs).
